Senators Urge HHS Secretary Becerra to Add NEMT Option to RSNAT Model Before it Expands Further

January 20, 2022

Yesterday, Inside Health Policy reported that Senators Jon Ossoff (D-GA), Raphael Warnock (D-GA), and Sherrod Brown (D-OH) are urging HHS Secretary Xavier Becerra to add NEMT for beneficiaries without alternative transportation to the Center for Medicare and Medicaid Innovation’s (CMMI) Repetitive Scheduled Non-Emergent Ambulance Transport (RSNAT) model before expanding the model further.

The January 12 letter is a companion to a letter signed by nearly 60 advocacy and stakeholder organizations and a letter by seven House Democrats which also asked CMS to pause the planned expansion and add an NEMT option. The advocacy and stakeholder letter, sent to Secretary Becerra on November 12, was coordinated by Simon & Co.
