Last Thursday (June 9), Simon & Co. coordinated a letter from 61 advocacy and stakeholder organizations in support of adding bill and report language to the FY23 L,HHS bill to delay further implementation of the Center for Medicare and Medicaid Innovation’s (CMMI) Prior Authorization of Repetitive, Scheduled Non-Emergent Ambulance Transport (RSNAT) model. The model denies ambulance transportation to Medicare dialysis and diabetes wound care patients with no appropriate, alternative transportation.
Specifically, the letter asks that CMS delay the current nation-wide rollout until the model is changed to ensure that low-income Medicare beneficiaries have right-sized transportation when they are prevented from using an ambulance.
